With over thirty years experience in the Industry and the founder of her own business over 20 years ago, Sharon has a passion and love for her work that is inspiring.
Her expert eye cutting a dress in the most flattering way and her attention to detail and knowledge of internal secret corsetry is a technical masterpiece, sculpting the female form to perfection. A Sharon Cunningham couture gown looks as amazing the day it was finished, as it will do in thirty years time. Passion for her work and knowledge of designing and making couture bespoke gowns is what sets her apart from many, offering a one to one service as standard.
It all started…growing up in Ireland and being taught to sew by her mother. Years of making dolls clothes and her own designs built up her love and passion for making!
She studied at…Fashion College in Ireland, winning the coveted International Smirnoff Fashion Award.
Then moved to London…to work with and learn from John Rocha, Ben De Lisi, Catherine Walker, Gieves and Hawkes. Learning from the best she learnt many couture techniques and worked with the best of fabrics to create the most amazing designs.
Worked with high profile clients and designed costumes for films…She worked with a number of famous faces including Jemima Goldsmith, Katrine Skepper, Kate Winslett, Mel Gibson, Sir Richard Branson’s wife Joan Templeman, Plum Sykes, Patsey Kensit and Miranda Burley.
Met and married Alex…then launched her first bridal collection to rave reviews and accolades. This was sold exclusively in Harrods.
In 1999 saw the opening of her own store in London's Mayfair…Showcasing the bespoke Collection of over 150 gowns all made to order and made in her own atelier. Dressed celebrities including Emily Blunt, Cheryl Cole, Shazney Lewis, Melanie Blatt, Grainne Seoige, Martine McCutchine, Rachel Hunter, Anna Acton, Kim Tiddy and Delta Goodrum.
Pressed pause…whilst her children were young but continued to design for a select group of clients and consult for fashion houses. Worked with other designers in the industry offering advice and help targeting high profile clients like Emma Watson and Beyonce.
She gets excited about...... creating dream gowns for clients and making their dreams come true! , the arrival of a new roll of fabric; draping fabric and playing with new designs in the studio and adores the first fitting of a gown and watching it grow into an exquisite creation. Weddings and event dressing is her dream blank canvas.
2014…The New bridal collection and the exclusive 24 dresses concept launches.
2017...Bespoke couture evening and occassionwear available to order at Sharon's private showroom by appointment. All commissions are exclusively designed for clients.
2017...Consulted for 1947 Bespoke a ladies wear company on the collaboration for the design of uniform for the InterContinental Hotel Park Lane New Restaurant opening.
When Sharon is not designing dresses…you’ll find her skiing, her second passion or entertaining and playing the piano. This year Sharon achieved her Alpine Ski Instructor qualification.
